Historical Importance: The temple is believed to have been built by the Parmara King Bhadrasen, with evidence suggesting it dates back to the Maratha period.

Legends Associated with Kal Bhairav

1. Shiva’s Manifestation as Kal Bhairav: According to Hindu mythology, when Brahma (the creator) and Vishnu (the preserver) debated over supremacy, Brahma spoke disrespectfully about Lord Shiva. In anger, Shiva manifested Kal Bhairav, who cut off one of Brahma’s five heads. As punishment, Kal Bhairav had to wander as a beggar until he reached Ujjain, where his sin was absolved.
2. Connection with the Mahakal Temple: Kal Bhairav is closely linked with Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. Devotees visiting Mahakal Temple also visit Kal Bhairav to complete their pilgrimage.
